I am presently expanding the article into a small book called Learning Redefined: Changing the Images that Guide the Process. I will eventually add Teaching Redefined to the manuscript. My key concern are the operating metaphors, the images that guide our behaviors and how they affect the day-to-day process and thus systemically alter the eventual products. We need a new image of what it means to learn.

It's worth a look. Many of the leading names in education are active in this organization. Deborah Meiers, for one, has some wonderful posts, which I recommend especially to anybody who is tired of the endless testing and measurement required by NCLB.

Fundamentalism is typified by a system of values, or valuing, which rules out thought that goes beyond its own assumed structure of worth. Where a value system is closed in this manner, it becomes a value program. The distinction between the two is easily made.
